The First Baptist Church of Cambridge Springs is ordained by God through the calling of Jesus Christ to uphold the body of believers and to equip them to evangelize and disciple through the living and teaching of the inerrant Word of God.
It‘s almost Christmas, the season when we get worship Jesus in joyous songs. How he came from the Holy Spirit through a virgin, how He was announced to shepherds; how He was visited and worshiped even as a baby. The Savoir entered the world in obscurity, only to become known as a carpenter’s son. Even as a boy He was special. 12 years old and preaching in synagogue. As he grew, He got baptized and then the Spirit of God came upon Him. He preached and healed, lived and died. He rose from the dead. He hung around a very short while and then He left.

Have you ever wondered if you were on the right road, whether the narrow or the broad? Have you ever questioned if you where actually a disciple or just thought you where one? Our have you ever just asked yourself “am I a disciple”?
We are embarking on our small group series, “Seeing through the mirror darkly”. It comes from a passage in 1 Cor 13 about someday seeing Jesus face to face, but until then we can only enigmatically. That’s actually the Greek word, ainigma and deals with something that is obscure. That’s by God’s design. In fact, we need to be a bit cautious, because God did not permit Paul to tell what he saw in heaven. It could bring the judgment of God if he told. So we don’t have an abundance of material.
When we can see where we are going, we are not alarmed at the obstacles because we see them coming. If we have direction, our navigation of reaching the destination is marked out ahead of time. When we know the plan, it gives us a sense of what we will accomplish. All this relates back to our attitudes.
I’m amazed at the opportunity we have to share our faith in 2012. I had a person approach me at the bank and wanted to know what I thought about the upcoming dates on the end of the earth. It’s a God given opportunity to share the truth. What is the truth? There are so many hucksters and idiots out there, that it’s made it tough for us. Remember how 2 Peter told us there’d be scoffers? Well they’re coming out of the wood work, but don’t ignore the true seekers!
“Everybody ends up somewhere in life. A few people end up somewhere on purpose. Those are the ones with vision. They may have other things going for them as well. But they certainly have vision. Not necessarily a vision (singular). Vision for each of the key roles they are assigned along the way.”
